"I've recently been using the Keeley DS-1se in front of the Keeley
compressor, partly because of too many complaints from the drummer about
the volume, and if that's not a recommendation for the DS-1se don't
know what is :o) It kicks the Maxon Distortion Master I had been using
before into touch. There's no discernible loss of bass and you can hear
every note, amazing. It's controlled mayhem!. Almost sounds like I know
what I'm doing! - Gary Ford"
"The ease of use is easier than the original DS1, because everything
sounds good w/ the seeing eye mod. The led light in the "O" for tone
blinks as you utilize it's distortion, and it slightly fades as it sustains
out. You only have 3 knobs (tone, level, distortion) so it's very simple
to dial in a great tone.
I'm running this through a clean tube combo. I notice that the more
you push your amp, the better this thing sounds. It has "MEGA" crunch
to it, and unlike an un-modded DS1, you can crank the distortion knob
for ultra saturation without all of the noise. The tone knob also is
more usable. On the unmodded ds1, I couldn't take my tone knob past
9:00. On this thing, it seems more responsive in a good way. I still
never take it past 12:00, but the knob at least is usable and versatile
now. This is the best distortion pedal i've ever played with. It has
a "rectified" type distortion, and is very powerfull if you want it
to be. I dialed my distortion down, and got a good dirty overdrive tube
sound out of it too, so the versatility is definitely there.
Keeley backs it up w/ a warranty. He also sent me a memo stating
that if I don't like it, to send it back for a complete refund. Yeah
right. I'm not letting this thing go anywhere!
The absolute best customer support I've ever experienced for musical
equipment. I emailed back and forth w/ Robert Keeley before buying.
He even answered questions about my set up that were totally unrelated
to my purchase. He is a very cool guy that obviously knows his shit.
He talks to you like a friend, rather than a salesman, and actually
appreciates your interest and business, rather than take it for granted.
I think by now, you can tell that I'm giving this an overall 10. It
is the distortion pedal I've been looking for. It's a great bargain
when you compare it to the quality and price of some "big name" distortion
pedals. I bought it expecting it to be awesome, and was perfectly satisfied
w/ it. If it were lost or stolen, I'd definitely get another. I almost
want another now so that I can have two set at different settings. It
sounds good hi gain and low gain. I love the simplicity of it, because
I hate pedals w/ a bunch of extra eq knobs etc. With this you have the
essentials w/ tone, level, and distortion and you can spend more time
playing instead of studying how to dial in your sound. Props to Robert
Keeley and what he's done w/ the DS1" - P.L., on Harmony

One of the most excellent pedals in my collection. This is not a DS-1
on steroids - it's a whole different pedal after Keeley works his magic.
This wild thing can shred with the best of them - it really is the WWF
of metal pedals as Keeley advertises his mod. I play mainly Les Pauls
thru twin Hot Rod DeVille - and this pedal makes me sound like I'm playing
thru two stacks instead of 2 -2X12's. This little orange concoction
is just a wall of sound - hit's you in the chest like a hammer. Out
of the box stock - this pedal is known to be a very common standard
dirt box used by millions of players - the modded version would make
Boss research and development people commit suicide. This pedal is now
a major high gain monster that resides permanently on my pedalboard.
Other players will wonder how the hell I'm getting this much "godzilla"
out of a Boss pedal. If you use Robert's suggested settings (the one's
he personally likes) be prepared to re-create the scene in Back to the
Future - you will be blown away! - Reverend David Lee on Harmony
